Description |
IIT Delhi’s Alumni-sponsored Loan Scholarship program, launched in February last year, makes it more affordable for students to take educational loans from banks. These loans cover both tuition and living expenses. The loan scholarship is in the form of reimbursement of interest to the student. The amount reimbursed is the interest that accrues on the loan during the duration of the program. The actual amount reimbursed is subject to some limits and criteria and is paid out at the end of the program.

Types of Scholarships |
Alumni can establish two types of loan scholarships:
- Named loan scholarship: Such a scholarship is established if an alumnus donates an amount of Rs. 2,30,000 (or US$ 5,000) or more. In that case, the donor may propose
The program(s) whose students are eligible to receive loan scholarship(s), such as “students in 4-year B. Tech. and 5-year dual-degree or integrated programs only”, or “students from 2-year M. Sc. only” .
  | Any additional eligibility criteria, such as “to women only” or “preferably to women”, etc., provided such a restriction or preference is within the generally accepted policy of the institute .
  | The title of the loan scholarship, e.g. “Late Smt. Kamaladevi Yellepeddy Loan Scholarship”. |
-
Loan scholarship corpus: If the donated amount is less than Rs. 2,30,000 (or US $5,000, as the case may be), then all such amounts will be pooled together in the form of a corpus. From this corpus, loan scholarships are open to all students. Priority will not be assigned to any specific category of students.

The scholarships will be awarded by a committee appointed by the Dean UGS, in consultation with Dean PGSR. Donors will get periodic reports every year on the name of student recipients, together with a statement of income and expenditure.

You are encouraged to make generous donations for this program. A loan, coupled with a loan scholarship, is one way of ensuring that no student of IIT is denied an opportunity to complete his/her program for lack of funds. Even small amounts will go a long way in helping the cause of many students.
